The Indy Eleven, the new pro soccer team in Indianapolis, will begin playing in the North American Soccer League in April at IUPUI's Carroll Stadium.
But the House Ways and Means Committee is advancing a proposal to earmark $2 million in taxes from the Eleven's games to help the team build an $87 million stadium of its own.
The tax-recapture mechanism was used to build the Colts and Pacers home stadiums and to finance improvements at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The Senate has already passed a bill to let Fort Wayne take a similar step.
The proposal passed a House committee on a bipartisan 18-2 vote-- the Senate won‘t weigh in on it until the final 10 days of the session.
