Purdue Extension will host a three-day conference in March with the aim of helping owners of small farms better manage their operations and market their products.
The conference, which will be hosted in Danville, will feature day-long sessions on making small farms profitable, the growing hops industry and tours of food production operations.
Small farms generate less than $250,000 in sales of products annually, and farms generating less than $100,000 in sales comprise about 76 percent of Indiana's farms, according to the 2012 Census of Agriculture.
Some of the sessions planned for the conference also include discussions on soil health, composting, grant writing and food safety planning.
"The conference, most importantly, provides an amazing opportunity for Indiana small farmers, beginning farmers, those interested in farming, local food business owners, and passionate supporters of small farms and local food production to come together and network," organizer Emily Toner said in a statement.
The conference will take place March 5-7, 2015.
