The City of Bloomington is counting Mayor John Hamilton as one of five city employees to have experienced a coronavirus infection after he received a positive COVID-19 antibody test this week.
A city news release said Hamilton experienced flu-like symptoms in April, but tested negative twice for the virus.
According to the CDC, "Antibody tests check your blood by looking for antibodies, which may tell you if you had a past infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. Antibodies are proteins that help fight off infections and can provide protection against getting that disease again (immunity)."
Hamilton's wife, Indiana University law professor Dawn Johnsen, was hospitalized for more than a week with COVID-19 complications in April.
Hamilton quarantined after his wife's positive COVID-19 test result and the city said he has been practicing social distancing since then.

The first two city employees to test positive for the virus have recovered and are now back at work, while the most recent cases are among employees who are expected to return to work this week.
