The Indiana State Police collected more than 2,300 pounds of unused and expired drugs last weekend, 800 more pounds than it gathered at the last take back in April.
The Drug Enforcement Administration sponsored the event and set up collection sites nationwide for expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.
"We want to make an option out there, we want to create for somebody to have an opportunity to get rid of the prescription drugs in a legal way where there is no pressure no question to ask, you know, where did you get these stuff, where does it come from," Public Information Officer of State Police Curt Durnil says.
Indiana State Police say the program is designed to prevent drug abuse and theft.
