Downtown Bloomington Restaurant 'Japanee' Catches Fire

Bloomington Firefighters spent much of this morning containing a blaze at a downtown sushi restaurant Japanee.

Smoke billowed out of the building that sits between 7th and 8th on Walnut even after firefighters got into the building and quelled the flames.

Fire Chief Roger Kerr says no one was in the building at the time, and so far, no injuries have been reported.

Initially, Kerr says, the blaze was so hot he had to pull his team out, and fight the flames from trucks and ladders outside the building. Eight trucks responded to the fire from three stations.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but Kerr says as soon as the building cools down, investigators will see if they can find out how the blaze began.
