Habitat For Humanity Transplants House In Bloomington

Volunteer movers have completed the ten-day process of transplanting a new house from its build site near Indiana University's Memorial Stadium to its permanent home just north of downtown Bloomington.

The house was built by Habitat for Humanity for Ashley Kell, her husband and their 3-year-old daughter. They have been living in government-supported apartment for the past couple of years and Ashley says there is finally a sense of permanence to their home.

"We've been working, and we've been just hoping that one day that we own our own house that we won't be paying so much in rent on something that we are never going to own," she says.

Monroe County Habitat Development Director Meagan Niese says the Kells will get an interest-free mortgage on their home, as long as they spend 250 hours building houses for other Habitat home recipients.
