A Martinsville building which was once the world's largest goldfish hatchery will be saved from the wrecking ball after finding a new owner this week. Eighty-year-old Grassyfork Fisheries is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Indiana Landmarks Vice President of Preservation Services Mark Dollase says the purchase not only prevents demolition, but also brings tax income and jobs into the community.
"In these difficult economic times, I think it's noteworthy that not only the local organization stepped up to save this local landmark, but that we now have an important local business person who's stepping up and investing in the property, and saving it for the future generations to enjoy. "
The new owner, local businessman Craig Fenneman, starts the rehabilitation today and will use the building as his office. The renovation will cost more than $300,000.
