The frequent rain during the past week has led to significant flooding in Bedford. A number of residents have been cut off from their houses and have limited access to their homes.
The town of Bedford started flooding over Easter weekend and Emergency Management personnel are monitoring providing sand bags and shelters to people who need help.
"What we do at Emergency Management we are the first line of defense. We are the information gatherers. We are monitoring the situation, letting the state know if we need any supplies. We are taking a need basis to solve the problems for those people," said Lawrence County Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer.
She says people should take precautions and not drive on roads that are flooded, some of which was caused by a release of water from the dam at Lake Monroe into Big Salt Creek.
There have been many power outages due to the weather, one lasting for 48 hours; however no power lines have been damaged.
