Monroe County has confirmed more than 100 new COVID-19 cases for the third time this month, according to the Indiana Department of Health.
The Indiana State Department of Health reported 101 new positive cases Thursday, increasing the county total to 7,699 cases. The death toll remained at 87. For most of December, the average number of daily COVID-19 cases has dropped, but the county has seen an increase in virus-related deaths.

Monroe County has administered 217,336 tests with a 5.5% seven-day positivity rate that continues to decrease from the rate of 11.3% on Nov. 29.
Across the state, the ISDH documented 6,288 new cases and 85 new deaths, totaling 482,734 cases and 7,391 deaths statewide since the pandemic began. The state has administered nearly 5.5 million tests with a 12% seven-day positivity rate.
ISDH data indicate COVID-19 patients occupy nearly 30% of Indiana ICU beds, with 22.3% still available, and more than 3,000 Hoosiers are currently hospitalized due to the virus.
