U.S. Sen. Todd Young (R-IN) said Wednesday that he would vote to certify the result of the 2020 presidential election, ahead of Congress' official reception of the Electoral College votes.

In a statement, Young wrote that he refused to violate the oath he swore to protect and uphold the U.S. Constitution as a U.S. senator and as a Marine.

"Like so many of my patriotic constituents and colleagues, I too wish the results of this election were different," Young wrote. "I strongly supported President Trump and his agenda the last four years. I campaigned hard for him."
Young warned that replacing the votes of the American people with the votes of Congress would set a "dangerous precedent."
Indiana's other U.S. Senator, Mike Braun is part of the group of Republicans who are challenging Joe Biden's victory.
