Monroe County is beginning vaccination of non-medical personnel and front line workers.
The Monroe County Convention Center will be the site of a vaccination clinic starting Jan. 11. It’s open to residents 80 years and older. People can sign up by logging onto ourshot.in.gov or by calling 211.
"If the online system is very busy, they will put you in kind of a waiting room, until you are in the queue to be served next,” said Monroe County Health Administrator Penny Caudill.
The county will expand the number of age groups eligible for the vaccine once it gets the all-clear from the state.
“We expect to receive 400 to 600 doses of the vaccine each week and, as that supply increases, so will our schedule and capacity to see and vaccinate more people,” said Caudill.
Arrangements are being made to administer vaccines to those unable to leave their homes.
Even with the availability of a more vaccine doses, county officials are urging the public to continue following social distancing and mask wearing guidelines.
