More Than 125,000 Individuals 70 To 79 Have Now Scheduled First COVID Vaccine

The Indiana Department of Health announced Thursday that more than 125,000 Hoosiers aged 70 to 79 have scheduled appointments to receive their first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The state opened registration to this age group Wednesday and people 80 and up last Friday.

According to the state’s announcement, these two age groups’ registrations combined total to about 250,000 vaccine appointments.  The totals don’t include Hoosiers vaccinated in long-term care facilities.

Eligible Hoosiers can register by visiting  https://ourshot.in.gov, calling 211, or contacting one of Indiana’s  Area Agencies on Aging. A caregiver or loved one also may make an appointment on behalf of an eligible senior.

Appointments for the second dose will be made at the clinic where the first dose is administered.

People 70 and older make up about 11 percent of Indiana’s population but 42 percent of COVID-19 hospitalizations and 78 percent of deaths, according to IDOH.
