This is not Johnsen's first experience working in a presidential administration.

Before joining IU in 1998, Johnsen served in the DOJ under President Bill Clinton. She was on the transition teams for both Clinton and President Barack Obama, who nominated her to lead the Office of Legal Counsel as assistant attorney general.

The Senate Judiciary committee approved her nomination 11-7, but the U.S. Senate did not act on the appointment and, after nearly two years in limbo, she withdrew her nomination.

Johnsen is married to Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton and shared her bout with COVID-19 on social media earlier this year.
