The number of Hoosiers hospitalized with COVID-19 dropped below 2,000 for the first time since Nov. 4, according to the Indiana Department of Health.
The IDOH reported Tuesday 1,976 COVID-19 hospitalizations, continuing the trend of previous weeks as numbers continue to fall in the state.Virus-related hospitalizations peaked at 3,460 on Nov. 30 and have steadily decreased to its current low. The state health department also recorded 1,777 new positive cases and 80 new deaths, increasing state totals to 614,946 cases and 9,432 deaths.
Indiana has administered more than 6.7 million tests on 2.9 million Hoosiers with a seven-day positivity rate of 9.3% — the lowest rate since Oct. 24.
Nearly 107,000 Hoosiers have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Patients with the virus currently occupy 20.7% of Indiana ICU beds, with more than 33% of beds still available.

In Monroe County, the IDOH reported 38 new cases and two new deaths, increasing the county totals to 9,496 cases and 115 deaths. The county has administered more than 262,000 tests with a seven-day positivity rate of 2.9%.
More than 57% of ICU beds in the area remain open, with 16.2% occupied. Eighty-eight residents are currently hospitalized due to the virus.
According to the IDOH, 2,033 Monroe County residents have been fully vaccinated.
