Indiana’s COVID-19 hospital census dropped by 190 Friday to 1,725, the lowest number of hospitalizations since October.
The Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) has reported declining numbers for nearly two weeks in COVID-19 cases, deaths, positivity rates and hospitalizations. On Friday, virus-related hospitalizations fell to a three-month low, mirroring the trend of other COVID-19 statistics.
The state recorded 2,647 new cases and 46 new deaths, increasing the state totals to 622,625 cases and 9,549 deaths. Indiana averages about 2,500 cases every day and less than 40 deaths, matching data recorded in October prior to an end-of-the-year surge.
IDOH numbers show COVID-19 patients occupy 18.4% of ICU beds, and 31.4% of beds remain available.
Indiana has administered more than 6.9 million tests with an 8.7% seven-day positivity rate, and the state has fully vaccinated more than 127,000.

In Monroe County, the IDOH reported 34 new cases of COVID-19, increasing the county total to 9,622. The death toll remained at 115.
The county has administered 268,946 tests with a seven-day positivity rate of 2.8%.
More than 55% of ICU beds in the area remain open, with 12.4% occupied by COVID patients. Seventy-six area residents are currently hospitalized due to the virus.
According to the IDOH, 2,108 Monroe County residents have been fully vaccinated — up by 58 from Thursday.
