IU Health expects to vaccinate its 20-thousandth patient for COVID-19 Friday. Its service area covers Bedford, Paoli and Bloomington.
“Our Bloomington vaccine site has been outperforming every vaccine site in the IU system in regards to our utilization rate,” said Southcentral Region President Brian Shockney.
According to Shockney, Indiana is leading the country in the percentage of population fully vaccinated and is second in the country in the rate of vaccines administered.
Monroe County Health Administrator Penny Caudill said the county will remain in the 70-and-over age range for Covid-19 vaccinations for the time being.
“We do expect that to come down and encompass people 65 and older soon but, as we have said before, vaccine supply and demand drive how quickly we can move from one group to another,” said Caudill.
Those who aren’t 70 and older can put their names on a standby list reserved for unused doses of vaccine. Caudill said people over the age of 70 who are on that list still will get priority.
