The Monroe County Board of Commissioners approved the rezoning of a strip of land on West 3 rd Street that will be developed into a new apartment complex.
The project, called Westgate on 3 rd, will be across the street from Ivy Tech Community College.
County Commissioner Julie Thomas says residents of the apartments will have access to a community garden and dog park.
Developers are proposing 320 apartments and townhomes to be built in three phases. The complex also will have retail space, such as a coffee shop or a grocery store.
