Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb on Tuesday announced the assignment of the final two of five total construction contracts to complete the state's I-69 Finish Line project.
A $345 million Reith Riley/Crider and Crider joint venture will handle the construction of I-69 from Morgan Street in Morgan County to Fairview Road in Johnson County, as well as creating the S.R. 144 and Smith Valley Road interchanges.
And a $728 million Walsh Construction and Milestone Contractors will construct I-69 from Fairview Road in Johnson County to I-465 in Indianapolis. The joint venture will also handle improvements on I-465 between I-65 and I-70 and build new I-69 interchanges at County Line Road, Southport Road, Epler Avenue and I-465.
The awarding of these contracts marks the beginning of the end of the mammoth infrastructure improvement project, which began with construction to extend I-69 near Evansville in 2008. The I-69 Finish Line project consists of the last six sections of the 142-mile I-69 corridor between Evansville and Indianapolis.
A news release from the Indiana Dept. of Transportation says I-69 Finish Line is expected to reopen for traffic in 2024.
