Ivy Tech Transfers Waldron Art Center Back To City

The Waldron Art Center is officially back in the city's hands.

Ivy Tech Community College transferred the title of the downtown building back to Bloomington late last month after providing notice of the impending move last May, according to a press release from the city.

Ivy Tech had owned and operated the building since 2010, when it was transferred to them by the city. The reversion of the title back to the city did not involve a financial exchange.

Mayor John Hamilton convened a 19-person task force in November to evaluate the building and make recommendations for its use.

The city has also obtained an appraisal for the property and has reviewed proposals for the building from interested organizations, according to the release.

The Waldron Art Center was built in 1915 and originally served as city hall. It went on to house the city’s police and fire departments. In 1990, the property was deeded to the Bloomington Area Arts Council.
