The number of COVID-19 cases, deaths, tests and hospitalizations continue to decrease in Indiana, but the state still averages nearly 40 deaths a day.
The Indiana Department of Health announced 1,225 new COVID-19 cases and 67 new deaths Tuesday, increasing the state totals to 641,874 cases and 11,526 deaths. The state’s death rate peaked in mid-December with more than 100 deaths every day, but over the past two months, the average has fallen to 40.
Hospitalizations peaked at the end of November but have fallen to 1,265, the fewest number of hospitalizations in mid-October. COVID-19 patients currently occupy 12.6% of ICU beds, with 37.6% of ICU beds remaining available. Only 5% of ventilators are in use, with 79.6% still available.
The state has administered more than 7.3 million tests on more than 3 million Hoosiers with a seven-day positivity rate of 6.4%.
More than 718,000 individuals have received their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, while more than 240,000 Hoosiers have received both doses.

In Monroe County, the IDOH reported 21 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death Tuesday, increasing the county totals to 9,965 cases and 155 deaths. Monroe County currently averages one virus-related death a day after averaging at least two a day through December.
Forty-five people in the area are hospitalized from COVID-19, and patients with the virus occupy 10.6% of ICU beds. More than 60% of ICU beds in the area remain available.
The county has administered more than 289,500 tests, with a 2% seven-day positivity rate.
More than 14,400 Monroe County residents have received their first dose of the vaccine, and 5,662 residents have been fully vaccinated.
