The Bloomington and Monroe County area can expect heavy snow fall to start this afternoon between 1 and 3 and continue until 9 PM.
That’s according to National Weather Service lead meteorologist Crystal Pettet. She says snow fall rates are expected to be 1 to 2 inches an hour during this window.
She says winds will be up to 20 miles-per-hour during the heaviest snowfall.
“Visibility is going to be very low," she says. "There will be a lot of blowing and drifting because this snow is a dryer snow. The blowing and drifting problems will continue after the heavy snow stops.”
Pettet adds this will make evening commutes treacherous and should be avoided if possible.
She says snow will continue tonight but will be lighter, and should be finished by 7 tomorrow morning.
