Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton has named Donald Griffin Jr. as the city’s new deputy mayor.
He’ll succeed Mick Renneisen, who is retiring at the end of April.
Griffin owns Griffin Realty. According to a press release from the city, Griffin, as deputy mayor, will oversee 16 City departments and 850 employees.
"I am extremely pleased to welcome Don Griffin to the team,” Hamilton is quoted as saying in the release. “Don’s personal energy and experience, his demonstrated commitment to the community, and his deep roots in neighborhoods and in so many civic institutions and efforts, all bode very well for our community's future."
Griffin currently serves as president of the Bloomington Redevelopment Commission and president and co-founder of the Monroe County Black Democratic Caucus. His annual salary will be about $112,000.
Griffin's predecessor, Renneisen, served as deputy mayor for four years and worked for the City of Bloomington for more than 40 years.
