New Indiana head coach Mike Woodson’s first recruiting job has been to retain players currently on the roster.
Friday, the biggest of them all announced he is staying at Indiana.
Sophomore forward Trayce Jackson-Davis led the team in scoring and rebounding this season. He tweeted the announcement Friday afternoon, saying, “I believe in Coach Woodson and his plan.”
Jackson-Davis averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds and was named first team All-Big Ten and third team All-American.
After the firing last month of head coach Archie Miller, who recruited Jackson-Davis, some speculated Jackson-Davis might enter the NBA draft.
But after talking with Woodson and his own family, Jackson-Davis said in his statement, “I believe it is in my best interest to come back for my junior year.
“Hoosier nation has been down for a while now, and I want to be a part of the change that makes it great again.”
Four Hoosiers – freshmen Jordan Geronimo and Kristian Lander, sophomore Armaan Franklin and junior Race Thompson – remain in the NCAA’s transfer portal. They still could choose to remain at Indiana. Senior guard Al Durhan has announced he is transferring to Providence.
Incoming freshman Logan Duncomb, a 6-foot-9 center from Cincinnati Moeller, has said he remains committed to Indiana.
