Coroner Rules IU Student's Falling Death An Accident

The Monroe County coroner believes an accidental fall from an apartment balcony caused the death of an Indiana University student.

Bloomington police were called to Urban Station Apartments at 5:42 a.m. Friday to reports that a man had fallen from a balcony.

A news release said officers found 20-year-old Jacob Schleinz on the sidewalk with significant injuries. A woman told police she had been talking with Schleinz when he suddenly fell over the railing of a fourth-floor balcony.

Schleinz, a Kelley School of Business student from Champaign, Illinois, was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he later died.

Monroe County Coroner Joani Shields ruled the preliminary manner and cause of death as “accidental blunt force trauma.”
