Meadowood Retirement Community To Close Skilled Nursing Center

Experts say staffing facilities has become increasingly difficult throughout the pandemic.
Experts say staffing facilities has become increasingly difficult throughout the pandemic.

Bloomington retirement community Meadowood will close its skilled nursing center by the end of the year.

Meadowood parent company Five Star Senior Living announced last week it would exit the skilled nursing business altogether to focus more on larger assisted and independent living communities.

According to the news release, Five Star Senior Living will also end its management of 108 smaller senior living facilities across the country and transition them to other operators. Five Star will continue to manage Meadowood.

A spokesperson confirmed Monday that Meadowood’s skilled nursing center is set to close and wrote in an email that current residents of the skilled nursing unit will be transferred to “a new skilled nursing facility.”

It is unclear how many Meadowood residents or employees the closure will affect.

Meadowood offers independent living in addition to its skilled nursing facility.

CORRECTION:  A previous version of this story stated that Meadowood provided memory care and assisted living. That is incorrect.
