Monroe County Emergency officials are opening cooling centers across the county, due to extreme heat.
A National Weather Service heat advisory has been issued for 2 p.m. today until 8 p.m. Thursday.
The peak heat index is expected to reach up to 105 degrees, with limited relief from the heat in the evenings and overnight.
The NWS recommends residents drink plenty of fluids, limit time outdoors, and check on relatives and neighbors.
Here’s a list of all cooling stations open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday – Thursday:

- Ellettsville Fire Department Headquarters, 5080 W. State Road 46
- Monroe Fire Protection District Station 22 – Perry, 3953 S. Kennedy Drive
- Monroe Fire Protection District Station 21*– Clear Creek, 9094 S. Strain Ridge Road
- Monroe Fire Protection District Station 23 – Indian Creek, 8019 S. Rockport Road
- Monroe Fire Protection District Station 25 – Bloomington, 5081 N. Old State Road 37
- Monroe Fire Protection District Station 29* - 2130 S. Kirby Road
- Monroe Fire Protection District 24 – Benton, 7606 E. State Road 45
County library branches are available as well from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday – Thursday:

Today, the forecast is expected to be sunny and hot, with a high of 96. This evening will be clear with a low of 75. Wednesday will also be sunny and hot, with a high of 97 during the day, and a low of 75. Thursday is expected to have a high of 97, and a low of around 74.
By Friday, it will be a high of 95, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Friday evening will cool down to 71, with a 10 percent chance of showers before 6 p.m. Saturday will have a high of 92, with a 20 percent of showers, and Sunday will have a high of 88. Labor Day will have a high of 87.
