The national headquarters of Sigma Pi, along with Indiana University agreed to close its Bloomington chapter for hazing and violating COVID-19 guidelines.
The suspension took effect April 16, according to IU’s student affairs page. Sigma Pi will be eligible to return in 2023.
“Sigma Pi had already voluntarily closed the chapter facility in November of 2020 based upon guidance from the Monroe County Health Department following the chapter’s hosting of two large gatherings violating COVID-19 policies and regulations,” said IU spokesman Chuck Carney in an email.
The chapter was also cited for dishonest conduct, endangering others, and hazing.
