With COVID-19 vaccinations dropping across the state and country, local health officials are increasing their efforts to get shots into arms.
The Monroe County Health Department will offer two “pop up” vaccination clinics, both in Bloomington, in the coming weeks.
The first will be at the Crestmont Boys and Girls Club May 6 from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The second is scheduled at the Monroe Convention Center May 10 starting at noon, with a follow-up second-shot clinic June 7. These clinics are focused toward the area’s Spanish-speaking populations but anyone can sign up if they haven’t been vaccinated.
“Certainly those (clinics) are not closed to just either one of those groups (Hispanic or Latino), but we want to do as much outreach as we can, knowing that some people have some barriers to getting into the clinics,” said Penny Caudill, Monroe County Health Administrator.
More information on the clinics will be made available in the coming days.
Forty-seven percent of the county’s vaccine-eligible population – those 16 and older – has received at least one dose.
Kirk White, IU COVID-19 Response Unit Leader, said the clinic at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall will continue vaccinating through the summer and into next fall.
