Indiana safety Jamar Johnson was selected in the fifth round of last weekend’s NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos.
It marks the eighth straight year at least one Hoosier football player has been drafted — the longest streak for the program since 1983-98.
Johnson, who was chosen with the 164 th overall pick, was a first team All-Big player in 2020. He had 43 tackles, four interceptions, four pass breakups and a sack for the Hoosiers last season.
Four other Indiana players signed free agent contracts with teams after the conclusion of the draft Saturday. Offensive lineman Harry Crider signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, defensive lineman Jerome Johnson signed with the Miami Dolphins, wide receiver Whop Philyor signed with the Minnesota Vikings and running back Stevie Scott III signed with the New Orleans Saints.
There are currently 18 former Hoosiers on NFL rosters.
