Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Friday as a cold front works its way southwest through central Indiana, and they will linger through the evening. Less than half an inch of rain is expected, and severe winds and hail are possible. Storms will subside by Saturday morning, providing mostly sunny skies through the weekend. Storms chances will pick up once again beginning Monday, with off and on showers occurring through Thursday.
Temperatures will be slightly below normal through early Monday because of the lower humidity, with weekend highs in the lower 80s and the lows hovering just above 60 degrees.
For the first time, the National Weather Service’s new computer forecasting model, WAM-IPE Model, can predict how Earth’s upper atmosphere will respond to solar and geomagnetic conditions. This advancement, created last month, will help forecasters deliver improved and quicker information to the public, provide better communications, navigation, and surveying, and improve space traffic management.
According to an article on their website, “[The] National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration plays a leading role in implementing the National Space Weather Strategy and Action Plan which calls for improved space weather models and forecasts to protect the nation from space hazards.”
