Sentencing Pushed Back To September For Ko In 2019 Stabbing At IU Music Camp

No sentencing was handed down for Dongwook Ko during a hearing Monday for his stabbing of a 13-year-old during a music camp on IU’s campus in 2019.

Ko was 17-years-old at the time of the stabbing.

Monroe County Judge Darcie Fawcett said during the hearing that they would issue a sentencing after further deliberation of evidence presented Monday, given the age of the victim and Ko at the time of the incident.

Family of the victim, an IU police lieutenant at the scene of the stabbing and a social worker who issued an evaluation report on Ko all testified during the sentencing hearing Monday.

Defense for Ko is recommending seven years, in addition to the two years of house arrest he has served since the stabbing. The prosecution is recommending 12 years.

In July, Ko pleaded guilty to criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 3 felony, which carries a potential sentence of 3 to 16 years.

The sentencing is expected September 10.
