Monroe County reported 26 new cases Monday and 18 Tuesday, after reporting 69 new cases Friday. That was the highest number of daily cases since Jan. 20.
The county moved to the orange advisory on the state map last week, indicating higher levels of spread than its previous yellow ranking – where it had been since July. It was the last Indiana county south of I-70 in yellow.
The county confirmed one new death Tuesday, bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 191.
The county’s seven-day positivity rate is 5.4 percent – down from Monday’s 5.6 and Friday’s 5.8 percent. The county has recorded 14,422 cases since the pandemic began.
In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, 107 people are hospitalized with COVID-19. That’s down from 128 Friday. Hospitalizations increased in the area from a low of 12 in July but dropped last week from September’s more –than-eight-month high of 138.
Monroe County’s weekly cases per 100,000 are up to 200 after reporting 181 previously.
Indiana
The state recorded 2,673 new cases Tuesday, up from 1,920 cases Monday, but down from 4,368 Friday. Two weeks ago, the state reported 5,476 cases, which is the most confirmed in the state in a day since Jan. 8.
The Indiana Department of Health added 81 new COVID deaths to the total, bringing the total to 14,765 since the pandemic began. The state has reported 937,221 cases.
The state reported that 2,477 Hoosiers were hospitalized with the virus Tuesday, up slightly from the 2,432 on Monday but down from 2,496 Friday. Hospitalizations topped 2,000 three weeks ago for the first time since Jan. 24 and have not dipped below since.
The state’s seven-day positivity rate was 11.3 percent Tuesday, down from 11.5 percent Monday and 11.7 percent Friday. The positivity rate hit a low of 1.9 percent June 22.
Around the state
Only one county — Porter in northwest Indiana — is in the yellow advisory, meaning 10 to 99 weekly cases per thousand and a seven-day positivity rate of 5-9.9 percent. Twenty-two counties are in the highest, red advisory, including Bartholomew, Lawrence and Martin counties.
