Monroe County
Monroe County confirmed 25 new cases Monday, down from 33 Friday and 50 Thursday.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in the county is up to 193, an increase from 191 confirmed Friday.
The county moved to the orange advisory on the state map two weeks ago, indicating higher levels of spread than its previous yellow ranking – where it had been since July. It was the last county in the state in yellow south of I-70.
The county’s seven-day positivity rate is 4.9 percent, down from 5.4 percent Friday and from 5.3 percent Thursday. The county has recorded 14,637 cases since the pandemic began.
Currently in District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, 99 people are hospitalized with COVID-19. That’s down from 108 Friday and 118 Thursday. Hospitalizations increased in the area from a low of 12 in July– but have dropped in the last couple weeks from September’s more-than-eight-month high of 138 on September 10. Monday is the first time hospitalizations have been lower than 100 since August 23.
Monroe County’s weekly cases per 100,000 are up to 204 after reporting 200 previously, and 181 before that.
The Monroe County Community School Corp. reported 5 COVID-19 cases in the district September 27.

Indiana
The state recorded 1,724 new COVID-19 cases Monday. That’s down from 3,255 cases Friday, and 3,659 Thursday. Monday’s confirmed cases are usually lower than the rest of the week. Three weeks ago, the state reported 5,476 cases, the most confirmed in the state in a day since Jan. 8.
The Indiana Department of Health added no new COVID deaths to the total – keeping it at 14,980 since the pandemic began. The state has reported 954,230 cases total since the start of the pandemic.
The state reported that 2,181 Hoosiers were hospitalized with the virus Monday, down from 2,279 Friday and from 2,336 Thursday. Hospitalizations topped 2,000 three weeks ago for the first time since Jan. 24 and have not dipped below since. Two weeks ago marked the most hospitalizations since Jan. 7, when they exceeded 2,700. But last week the state saw a week-long decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations – the first recorded since January. Friday is the first time the state’s hospitalizations have gone below 2,200 since August 31.
The state’s seven-day positivity rate is 10.3 percent, down from 10.7 on Thursday and Friday. The positivity rate hit a low of 1.9 percent June 22.
