Monroe County will remain in the orange advisory level for COVID-19 this week, however the positivity rate has dropped below 5 percent.
During the county commissioner meeting Wednesday, health administrator Penny Caudill said Monroe County is one of two Indiana counties with a COVID-19 positivity rate lower than 5 percent. She said new cases per 100,000 residents will be under 200 this week.
“Those are improvements," Caudill said. "Remember that we have to stay in a particular category for two weeks to show an ongoing trend before you can move lower.”
Additionally, the board of commissioners approved an extension for the county mask mandate through Oct. 31.
If Monroe County drops to the blue advisory level, meaning there are fewer than 10 new cases per 100,000, the mask order will automatically expire.
