Monroe County's Cases Per 100,000 Decline For First Time In Three Weeks

Monroe County confirmed 23 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, one up from the 22 Tuesday, down from 25 Monday. Last week, the most confirmed cases in the county were 50 on Thursday. 

The county confirmed three new deaths Wednesday. They happened between Sept. 6 and Sept. 26. – bringing the total to 196.  

The county is still in the orange advisory, which it has been for the last three weeks. Its seven-day positivity rate is 4.7 percent, down from 4.9 percent Monday and Tuesday. The county has recorded 14,681 cases since the pandemic began.       

Currently in District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, 97 people are hospitalized with COVID-19. That’s down from 101 Tuesday and Monday’s 99. Hospitalizations increased in the area from a low of 12 in July but have dropped in the last couple weeks from a more-than-eight-month high of 138 on Sept. 10. Monday was the first time hospitalizations have been lower than 100 since Aug. 23.    

Monroe County’s weekly cases per 100,000 are down to 159. Last week, the county reported 204 per 100,000. This is the first time in three weeks cases per 100,000 have gone down.  

The Monroe County Community School Corp. reported five COVID-19 cases in the district Sept. 28. 

Indiana   

The state recorded 2,888 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday. That’s up from 2,378 Tuesday and 1,724 Monday.  Last week, the state recorded more than 3,000 cases but fewer than 4,000 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Two weeks ago, the state recorded more than 4,000 but fewer than 5,000 cases on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Three weeks ago, the state reported 5,476 cases, the most confirmed in the state in a day since Jan. 8.     

The Indiana Department of Health confirmed 65 new COVID deaths Wednesday, bringing the total to 15,132 since the pandemic began. The state first surpassed 14,000 deaths over a months ago, on Aug. 30. The state also has reported 959,409 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic. 

The state reported  2,129 Hoosiers were hospitalized with the virus Wednesday, up from 2,113 Tuesday, down from 2,181 Monday. Hospitalizations topped 2,000 three weeks ago for the first time since Jan. 24 and have not dipped below since. Two weeks ago marked the most hospitalizations since Jan. 7, when they exceeded 2,700. But last week, the state saw a week-long decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations, the first recorded since January. Monday is the first time the state’s hospitalizations have gone below 2,200 since Aug. 31. 

The state’s seven-day positivity rate is 9.8 percent, down from 9.9 Tuesday and 10.3 Monday. The positivity rate hit a low of 1.9 percent June 22.   

Long-Term Care Facilities   

The state reported 385 new positive cases among residents at long-term care facilities this week after recording none last week. Two weeks ago,121 cases were recorded. The total number of positive cases since the pandemic began is 25,770.   

Forty-nine new resident deaths were confirmed this week, which happened between Sept. 18 and Sept. 28. Last week nine resident deaths were recorded, which happened between Aug. 6 and Sept. 20. Three weeks ago, the state confirmed 30 deaths. This brings the total to 6,456 in long-term care facilities since the pandemic began.

The Richland Bean Blossom Health Center: 32  positive resident cases, eight resident deaths, 18 positive staff cases (+3, no change, +4 from last week) 

Stonecroft Health Campus: 33 positive resident cases, 14 resident deaths, 28 positive staff cases (no change from last week)  

Garden Villa: 73 positive resident cases, 14 resident deaths, 45 positive staff cases (no change from last week)  

Monroe Place: Fewer than five positive resident cases, fewer than five resident deaths, fewer than five positive staff cases  (no change from last week)  

Golden Living Center: 56 positive resident cases, 20 resident deaths, 32  positive staff cases (+5, no change, +1)  

Brookdale: 0 positive resident cases, 0 resident deaths, 0 positive staff cases (no change from last week) 

Autumn Hills Alzheimer’s Special Care Center: fewer than five positive resident cases, 0 resident deaths, fewer than five positive staff cases (no change from last week)  

Bell Trace:fewer than five positive resident cases, 0 resident deaths, 0 positive staff cases (no change from last week)  

Bloomington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center:  24 positive resident cases, fewer than five resident deaths, seven positive staff cases (no change from last week)  

Gentry Park: 16  positive resident cases, fewer than five resident deaths, 20 positive staff cases (+1, no change, +2) 

Meadowood Health: 10 positive resident cases, fewer than five resident deaths, 24 positive staff cases (no change from last week)  

Hi Jill’s: 0 positive resident cases, 0 resident deaths,fewer than five positive staff cases (no change from last week)  

Hearthstone: 53 positive resident cases, 15 resident deaths, 36 positive staff cases (+1, no change, +1)
