Student accused of bringing gun to Bloomington South taken to juvenile detention center

A 14-year-old student brought a gun to Bloomington High School South on Thursday in his bag, according to an email Principal Mark Fletcher sent to students and parents Thursday.

The gun was never used in a threatening manner, and school staff followed all safety protocols, Fletcher wrote in the email.

The student was referred to juvenile probation for possession of a firearm on school property, which is a level 6 felony, Bloomington Police Department Captain Ryan Pedigo said.

The student, who was not named, was taken to a juvenile detention center, Pedigo said.
