Monroe County
Monroe County confirmed 36 new COVID-19 cases Monday, down from 45 new positive cases Friday.
The county confirmed no new deaths Monday, leaving the total at 196.
The county is still in the orange advisory, which it has been for the past three weeks. Its 7-day positivity rate dropped to 4.6 percent Monday, from 4.7 percent Friday. The county has recorded 14,850 cases since the pandemic began.
Monroe County is just one of four counties in the yellow for the weekly 2-metric score. It’s just one of two counties in the state in the blue, or lowest range, for 7-day positivity rates.
In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, 94 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. That’s down from 100 on Friday and 98 on Thursday. Hospitalizations hit an eight-month high of 138 on Sept. 10, but have been steadily decreasing.
Monroe County’s weekly cases per 100,000 were down to 159.
The Monroe County Community School Corp. reported 10 COVID-19 cases in the district Monday, including eight in school buildings.
Indiana
The state recorded 1,822 new COVID-19 cases Monday, well down from the 3,218 reported Friday and 3,482 on Thursday. The number of positive cases has declined since topping out at more than 5,000 new daily cases two weeks ago, the most confirmed in Indiana in a day since Jan. 8.
The Indiana Department of Health announced no new COVID deaths, but added 80 deaths to the state total, bringing thate number to 15,273 since the pandemic began. The state surpassed 14,000 deaths on Aug. 30. The state has reported 972,067 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
Hospitalizations in the state dipped under 2,000 for the first time in three weeks, with the number of Hoosiers in the hospital with the virus at 1,861. It’s the fewest number of hospitalizations since Aug. 23.
The state’s 7-day positivity rate was 9.5 percent Monday, down from 9.7 percent Friday and 9.8 percent Wednesday and Thursday. The positivity rate hit a low of 1.9 percent June 22.
