Monroe County confirmed 19 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, down from 36 Monday, and 45 cases Friday.
The county confirmed no new deaths Tuesday, leaving the total at 196.
The county is still in the orange advisory, where it has been for the past month. Its 7-day positivity rate dropped to 4.5 Tuesday from 4.6 percent Monday and 4.7 percent Friday. The county has recorded 14,4869 cases since the pandemic began.
In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, 99 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 Tuesday, up from Monday’s 94. That’s still down from 100 Friday. Hospitalizations hit an eight-month high of 138 Sept. 10 but have been steadily decreasing.
Monroe County’s weekly cases per 100,000 are down to 159.
The Monroe County Community School Corp. reported 10 COVID-19 cases in the district Monday, including eight in school buildings.
Indiana
The state recorded 2,130 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, up from 1,822 Monday, and fewer than the 3,218 reported Friday. The number of positive cases has declined since topping out at more than 5,000 new daily cases two weeks ago, the most confirmed in Indiana since Jan. 8.
The Indiana Department of Health announced 69 new COVID deaths, bringing that number to 15,342 since the pandemic began. The state surpassed 14,000 deaths Aug. 30. The state has reported 974,169 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
Hospitalizations in the state dipped under 2,000 for the first time in three weeks Monday, with the number of Hoosiers in the hospital with the virus at 1,861. It’s up Tuesday to 1,879.
The state’s 7-day positivity rate Tuesday is 9.5 percent– the same as Monday and down from 9.7 percent Friday. The positivity rate hit a low of 1.9 percent June 22.
