Three City of Bloomington employees tested positive for COVID-19 this week, according to a city update.
They work at Bloomington Transit, City Hall, and the Street Division in the Department of Public Works.
Close contacts at work for the Bloomington Transit employees were notified. No members of the public were identified as close contacts.
No close contacts among coworkers or members of the public were identified for the City Hall employee or public works employee.
The total number of COVID-19 cases among city employees is now 116.
Last week, the city paused recycling services because of a COVID-19 outbreak among employees in the Sanitation Division.
Because Bloomington has no vaccination mandate, city officials do not have direct knowledge about every employee’s vaccination status. But Bloomington’s Communications Director Yael Ksander said the protocol for those who are vaccinated and unvaccinated is different.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s protocol, those who are unvaccinated and close contacts must not work for at least seven days.
If vaccinated and a close contact, employees are allowed to return to work but must wear a mask at all times for 14 days and are recommended to get tested three to five days after exposure. If symptomatic at any time, they may not return to work.
