The City of Bloomington has paid out $65,000 to employees in its vaccine incentive program.

The city announced in June any employee who was vaccinated against COVID-19 would  receive $100. During last Friday’s news conference among city, county and IU officials, Mayor John Hamilton said 650 people – or about 70 percent of city employees – had received the COVID vaccine.

Hamilton also said the city continues to work toward meeting the criteria for President Joe Biden’s  vaccine mandate for large employers, despite a ruling from the 5 th Circuit Court of Appeals halting its implementation.

“We view this as a good step forward, the right thing to do, and we're preparing for it,” Hamilton said.

On Tuesday, the Biden administration asked a separate federal appeals court to reverse the 5 th Circuit ruling.
