Monroe County Girls Inc. to reopen, with focus on in-school services

Monroe County Girls Inc. will reopen next month, after merging with its Shelbyville affiliate.

The Monroe County organization closed last year due to financial challenges that were exacerbated by the pandemic.

Marisa Churchill is the director of operations. She said Monroe County Girls Inc. will shift its focus to service in schools.

“We do health sexuality programming which is a big component that Shelbyville focuses on there. So we’re trying to incorporate that in Monroe County as well.

Churchill said programming also will include body positivity and drug awareness.

The organization will host a relaunch event, as a way to reintroduce itself to the community.

“We’re also wanting more community members to come, that we are also here as a resource and this is what your girls can attend,” Churchill said.

The kickoff event will be December 3rd from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1108 West 8 th Street.
