Whitten selects Rahul Shrivastav for new IU Bloomington provost

Indiana University will have a new provost and executive vice president, Rahul Shrivastav, starting Feb. 15.

Shrivastav has worked as the vice president for instruction at the University of Georgia since 2015.

His appointment at IU is pending approval from the board of trustees.

He replaces Lauren Robel, who started in the role in 2012 and stepped down this summer.

John Applegate, who was a finalist for the position, was named the interim provost last spring by former IU Bloomington President Michael McRobbie. Previously, he served as IU’s executive vice president for university academic affairs.

The provost is the chief academic officer for the Bloomington campus.

IU Bloomington President Pamela Whitten has also named Dwayne Pinkney, the senior vice president and chief business officer at Virginia Tech, as IU’s first executive vice president for finance and administration.

She also appointed J. Thomas Forbes as the president and CEO of the IU Foundation. He’s served in that role in an interim capacity for the last year.
