Hollingsworth was first elected in 2016.

Indiana’s 9 th District Congressman Trey Hollingsworth wrote in an op-ed for the Indianapolis Star—which is not in his district—that he isn’t seeking reelection in 2022.

The Republican seat Hollingsworth has occupied since 2016 is now up for grabs in a reliably red district.

In the op-ed Hollingsworth called out the Washington establishment and reiterated previous public positions on lobbying restrictions and term limits.

Hollingsworth hinted at a run for future office stating the district “deserves a member of Congress totally and completely focused on the 9 th District.” He will fight for the district in “different ways.”

As I contemplate how I can work for you in new and better ways in the future, I won’t run for reelection this year….now I will fight for you and us in different ways. https://t.co/mwElf3bZf9 — Trey Hollingsworth (@RepTrey) January 12, 2022

Indiana’s current governor, Republican Eric Holcomb, is term limited and will leave office after 2024.

Spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party, Drew Anderson, hinted at Hollingsworth's potenital run for governor, writing the congressman would "attempt to lead an Indiana Republican Party that continues to push their extreme culture wars ahead of a better future for Hoosier families."

Chairman for the Indiana Republican Party, Kyle Hupfer, called Hollingsworth "a dedicated servant" in a statement. "Hoosiers have certainly been well served thanks to his steadfast leadership," Hupfer said.
