Indiana University President Pamela Whitten was a guest of the White House Thursday for First Lady Melania Trump’s announcement of a partnership with Indiana and Purdue Universities.
Melania’s Foster the Future program, which provides scholarships for youth who lived in foster care, received $2 million in gifts from Fox Sports and IndyCar for students attending the two Indiana schools.

The announcement came before this weekend’s IndyCar race on the streets of Washington, D.C. Fox Sports owns IndyCar’s television rights.
Purdue and IU join 24 other institutions partnered with Melania’s program, including University of Texas Austin, University of Georgia and the Ohio State University.
“Today, Indiana University and Purdue University join fostering the future's growing coast-to-coast alliance of leading academic institutions,” Melania said. “Congratulations and thank you.”
Also present were Cherise Hall, Vice Provost for Enrollment Management at Purdue, as well as business leaders and IndyCar drivers.
Fox Sports CEO Eric Shanks called out Whitten during his speech.
“Standing here today as we talk about the crossroads of sports and opportunity and community, it fills me with great pride as a native of Indiana and an IU alum,” Shanks said. “Thank you, Pam.”
President Trump made an appearance and appeared on video exchanging some brief words with the IU president.
