The Big Ten released its revised 2022 football schedule Wednesday, and Indiana caught a bit of a break.
The original schedule had the Hoosiers facing East Division powerhouses Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State in one four-week stretch late in the season.
Now, the Michigan game has been moved to early October, and Indiana will have a bye week heading into games against Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan State.
Another change to the schedule has IU opening play at home against Illinois instead of Northwestern, as originally planned.
Indiana will end the season, as usual, with Purdue. This year’s game will be in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers are looking to bounce back after going 2-10 overall and 0-9 in the Big Ten last season.
Indiana will have new coordinators on both sides of the ball. Offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan was let go after the season and former UMass head coach Walt Bell hired as his successor. Defensive coordinator Charlton Warren left last weekend for a similar job at North Carolina. IU has yet to name his replacement, but multiple media outlets have reported Minnesota defensive line coach Chad Wilt is expected to take the job.
