Monroe County confirmed 355 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, the most it has ever confirmed in one day. No new deaths were reported.
The county’s positivity rate increased to 21.9 percent from 20.9 percent Tuesday.
Monroe County is now recording 1,457 new cases per 100,000 – up from 1,081. This number is updated every Wednesday.
In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, hospitalizations are at 157. That’s just 10 fewer than the most the district has ever reported, which was in December 2020.
State
The state confirmed 16,502 new cases Wednesday and 12,126 new cases Tuesday. In total 1,490,496 Hoosiers have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic began.
The state also reported 77 new deaths, bringing its total to 19,643. The state’s seven-day positivity rate is now 30 percent, up from 29.7 percent Monday. Currently, 3,492 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Indiana, up from 3,460 Tuesday.
About 35 percent of ICU beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients and fewer than 11 percent are still available. All of Indiana’s 92 counties are now in the most severe red category on the state dashboard, indicating higher levels of spread.
