Monroe County remains steady with 78 new COVID-19 cases

Monroe County confirmed 78 new  COVID-19 cases Friday, the same as Thursday. In total, 26,876 county residents have tested positive since the pandemic began. No new deaths were reported.

“We continue to see improvements around the county and state,” health administrator Penny Caudill said. “Omicron has shown these steep, fast surges followed by steady declines, which is what is currently being watched.”

In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, hospitalizations remained steady at 112 COVID-19 patients. More than 34 percent of ICU beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients and about 24 percent of beds are still available.

The county’s seven-day positivity rate is 18 percent, up from 17.5 percent Thursday.

State 

The state confirmed 2,839 new cases Friday, down from 2,969 Thursday.  In total, 1,664,353 Hoosiers have tested positive since the pandemic began.

The state also added 108 new deaths, which occurred between Dec. 20- Feb. 10. In total, 21,298 Hoosiers have died from COVID-19.

Across the state, 1,932 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized. This is down from 2,036 hospitalizations Thursday.

The state’s seven-day positivity rate is now 18.3 percent, down from 19.4 percent Thursday.
