Bloomington’s Bear’s Place closes doors after 50 years

After 50 years, Bloomington’s Bear’s Place is closing its doors.

The restaurant and ale house made the announcement on social media Friday.

Bear’s says that the “current business climate” has made it too difficult, and that the best course of action would be to take a break.

“We are looking forward to jumping into the creative process and deciding how, where, and when to bring Bear’s Place back,” the post said.

Bear’s Place opened in 1972 and has hosted musicians like David Baker and comedians such as Ellen DeGeneres.

The closing is effective immediately.
