Monroe County confirmed 72 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, up from 52 Tuesday. In total, 27,101 county residents have tested positive since the pandemic began.
The county also reported two new deaths, raising its total to 258. The new deaths were reported between Feb. 8-13.
Monroe County will remain in a red advisory level for another week. Currently, the county is reporting 310 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people. This is down from 441 cases per 100,000 people last week.
“Even though Monroe County does remain in a red advisory this week, our numbers are coming down,” county health administrator Penny Caudill said.
Caudill said the county’s rolling daily average of cases is hovering around 57, which is down from 232 two weeks ago.

In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, 80 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized. This is up slightly from 76 hospitalizations Tuesday.
The county’s seven-day positivity rate is now 15.6, down from 17.3 percent Tuesday.
State
The state confirmed 1,447 new cases Wednesday, down slightly from 1,462 Tuesday. In total, 1,671,299 Hoosiers have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
The state also added 125 new deaths, which occurred between Jan. 1- Feb. 15. In total, 21,524 Hoosiers have died from COVID-19.
Across the state, 1,526 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, down from 1,600 hospitalizations Tuesday.
For the week of Jan. 31, 100 percent of COVID-19 cases across the state were the Omicron variant.
The state’s seven-day positivity rate is now 13.1 percent, down from 14.2 percent Tuesday.
