Prosecutors in Owen County have charged an Indianapolis woman with animal cruelty and failing to dispose of animal carcasses properly.
The charges against Sue Lynne Childers come a month after authorities found 28 dead alpacas on SuPaca Farms near Gosport.
Prosecutors charged Childers with 28 felony counts of improperly disposing of dead animals and 22 misdemeanor counts of abandonment or neglect.
In documents sent to reporters Tuesday, Owen County Prosecutor Donald R. VanDerMoere II wrote that Childers abandoned and neglected 35 alpacas, three llamas, three chickens, two horses and nine canines in her custody.
The charges were filed Feb. 17, after Owen County sheriff’s deputies and a veterinarian from the State Board of Animal Health found 28 dead alpacas at SuPaca Farms.

After officers reported that the live animals were in poor health, lacked food and water, and were severely malnourished, a judge granted a court order allowing authorities to seize the living alpacas and other animals.
The animals were taken to the Owen County Humane Society.
Childers’ attorney didn’t immediately return a call to his office Wednesday.
A jury trial is scheduled to begin in June.
